ELECTION DISORDERS
Booths Scenes of Uproar (Eeceived 19, 8.45 a.m.) PARIS, Oct. 18. • Many disorders occurred on the second day of the departmental couneils elections, especially at Marseilles, where bailiffs appointed by the president of the civil tribunal were expelled from the booths by the presiding officers. Orders were given that only groups of five eleotors would be admitted at one time. In the absence of the bailiffs the booths became scenes of uproar. The police intervened, and aa a consequence one candiato has lodged a protest. At one booth a voter shot another in the head, the victim being taken to hospital and the attacker arrested. Unable to agree with 'the other officials, a presiding officer at another hooth picked up the ballot box and walked out with it under his arm. Tlie cantonal elections ended in victory for the Popular Front, whose various branches won 864 seats, gaining 45. The Opposition secured 661 seats.
