CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
H.B. Central Giui Club A good muster of shooters attended the monthly shoot at the Hawke's Bay Central Gun Club's grounds at Longlands on Saturday. The weather was overcast with little wind, and for the greater part of the afternoon shooting conditions were ideal. Two important trophy matches were shot off, the first of these being for a cup pfesented to the club by Messrs. L. J. Harvey, and the second being for Mr. Daine's Eose-bowL In the match for the Harvey Cup a very fine performance was put up by Mr. T. Parker, a veteran shooter from the Napier Gun Club. The final was contested between Mr. Parker and Mr. H. Howlett, the former winaing tho match after shooting 25 consecutive birds, all of which were broken on the first barrel excepting one. Mr. Howlett 's performance was also meritorious as he shot 24 consecutive birds, also using his second barrel only onee. Great inferest was taken in this match, and Mr. Parker, a very popular visitor to the club, received the trophy amid loud applause. The resnlt of the novices* match fer Mr. Daines* trophy resulted in Mr. John Macfarlane being the provisional winner. This trophy must be won twiee for permanent possession. The following shooters competed in the afternoon 's matches: — Messrs T. Parker, E. Groome, H. Howlett, J. Mills T. Y. and S. Morrin, D. M. Campbell, I. R. and M. S. O. Gordon, MacFarlane, R. Symons, "W. Herries, G. Tait, B. Franklyn and J. McKinnon. The afternoon tea attended to by Mr. H. M. Bishop was n\uch appreciated, and also Mr. Bishop 's willing services as referee throughout the matches.
