From
WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. ' A decision to contributo a quarter of the cost of any scheme . costing not more than £40 to assist the Waipukurau County Oouncil with flood protection of the banks of the Tukituki near the Waipukurau Borough Council' s pumping station^ was arrived at by "the. latter body at its monthly meeting this evening. Air R. B. Price, engineer of the Waipukurau County Council, wrote asking if the Borough Council would work on tlie Tukituki river bed at the be prepared to assist ' with protection point above the borough property where the water supply would be situated. A recent flood had encroached on the old bed, and it was felt 'that some form of protection was necessary. ■ Mr Price asked if he could meet a borough representative at an early date to .discuss the taking of co-operative measures. The Mayor (Mr I. W. K- Mackie); said he and Mr Smarfc (clerk-engineer) had had a look at the place and that the County Council's pioposal was to build a groin. Mr Smart said that Mr Prico- had estimated the cost at about £30. No doubt the proposed work would protect borough property. The Power Board was also concerned, and their assistance was being 60Ught by tho Waipukurau County. The Mayor, after expressing the opinion that a contribution to the sche ne would be money well spent, moved that the borough offer to contribute a quarter share of the total cost of up to £40. This was secouded by Cr. J. MoCarthy and carried.
