"HANDS OFF CHINA"
Rally at Newcastle ' CARGO VESSEL DISPUTE (Received 18, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 17. Contrary to expectations, the Chinese «rew refused to Teturn to work on the British-pwned cargo boat Siilcsworth, which is chartered by a Japanese firm and bound for Dairen, in Manchukuo. It was anuounccd earlipr that a sottlement of the dispute had been reach«d, and that tbe vessei wouid lcave for tho neutral port of Manila, where the crew eould be dlscharged and repatri ated to China at the expense of tho Silkworth's owners. The Chinese crew now take up the attitude that they will not he parties to transporing flour and gypsum to the attackers of their own countrymen. The executive of the Newcastle Labour Council is calling on all Brtiish and Anstralian seamen to refuse to man tho Silksworth. A "Hands-ofF China" rally will be field at Newcastle to-morrow, The Chinese Consul, also the - crew of the Silksworth, will attend, The Newcastle unions have ranged themselves behind the Chinese crew, ttid in the event of legal proceedings being taken against tho Silksworth 's erew the local unions will extead the 4|i|rate to Melbournti .
