Ensuring Safety of Shipping

TIMARU, Last Night. . The first of a number of radio beacons which the Government proposes to erect around the New Zealaud coast for the safety of shipping was opened this week at Baring Head. Now that this beacon is operating, the next points to be attended to will be Oape Campbell and Stephens* Island. The Minister of Marino, the Hon. P. Praser, said this morning that Captain Davey, of the Awatea, was present at the opening of the Baring Head beacon and this morning the Minister received the following radiogram from Captain Davey. "Baring Head beacon tested with exeellent results.*' The Minister added that, after at* tending to the saf etey of the entrance of Wellington Harbour other points on the coast would be dealt with.
