Finding Suitable Work For Unfit Men

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. One of the big problems at present facing the Govenrment is that of finding suitable avenues of employment fox men who are fit only for light work and cannot be sent to farms or to public works jobs. This was made clear this morning by the Minister of Labour, the Hon H. T. Armstrong, when replying to a deputation from the Christchurch Eeturned Soldiers' Association which waited on him with a request that soniething be done for unfit men among tln unemployed. Tho Minister said that he was not concerned so much with the physieally fit men, as he believed they were "quite capable of being absorbed into industry, but he was concerned with men who were not suitable for heavy labour, however much industry developed. " We are managing to plaee quite a number in positions, however," ho said, "and in some cases are arranging special contracts of appronticeship for periods of two or threo years at rates of wages slightiy less than the baise
