WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Garden Party at Kaiwaka To celebrate its fifth birthday the Kaiwaka Women's Institute held a garden party, Mrs Sigvertsen making available for tho purpose her garden with its smooth lawns and gay flower beds. Ideal spring weather favoured the occasion. A saies table did brisk business and a competition to guess the weight of a cake proved popuiar. The president, Mrs White, presented the pi'izes won during the year as follow: Bowl for fioral competition: Mrs liammond 1, Mrs Grindell, Mrs Macaulay and Miss Bennett 2 (equal). Prize for points won during the year: Mrs Wilkio I, Mrs Maeaulay 2, Mrs Fraser 3. Afternoon-tca was served, a special feature being the institute 's birthday cake. Ihe results om the competitions for the day were: Pansies, Mrs Sigvertsen 1, Mrs Bain and Miss Bennett 2. Marmalade: Mrs Wilkie I, Mrs Bain 2.
