REMITS PASSED AT RECENT ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING OF N.Z.U.T.G
At the recent firsfc annual council meeting of the New Zealand Unioix of TownSwomen's Guild held in Wellington the Hastings guild 3vas represented by their president and secretary, Mrs. A. F, Glenny and Mrs. F. Deans. At the monthly meeting of the guild yesterday Mrs. Deans read the resolutions passed at the 'meeting and these were as foilow: — (1) Ux^ency remit.— That representation be made to the MiniBter of Railways thi-ough the N.Z.U.T.G. in regard to the annoyance and embarrassment to women owing to the drinking by male passengers on excufsion trains and that consideration be given by him to the suggestion that a carriage for women be put on excufsion trains and that that carriage be labelled accordnigly, (2) That this. meeting recommends the executive of the N.Z.U.T.G. to institute a guildi badge, .the wearing of which would serve as an. introduction between members and encourage good fellowshxp throughout the guild move'ment. (It was decided to adopt the English Townswomen's Guild badge with the additiojn. of a fern leaf.) (3) That the N.Z.U.T.G. urge the New Zealand Government to appoint Xxxllice women throughout Mew Zealand. (4) That this meeting of the N.Z.U.T.G. respectfully asks the Government of New Zealand to enact legislation during next session of Parliament prohibiting thereby the consumption of intoxicating drinks in or about any publjc hajl, club house or building that is licensed as a public hall or is used for public purposes, and that we ally ourselves .with other women' s .organisations against this evil. (5) That, in order t0 raise the social status of tlxose employed in domestic work, the N.Z.U.T.G. 'urge the Government to establish a domestic traiiiing school. (6) That, as women pay unemployment tax, the Government'be approached regarding the granting of unemployment benetits to women. (7) That. in view of the fact tliat tho study of civics should be a defiuitc part of eacli T.G. programme the N.Z.U.T.G. establish a lending library, one braneh of which shall. deal with social evils and present-day conditions. Each guild shall contribute annually to such a library. b ' It was decided td hold the uext annual council m6feting on the last Wednesday in September, 1938, to be followed by a Round Table Conference the following day. most ittteresting and helpful but that the day was so very full with business items that it was deoided to hold a round; table conference on the following day to enable the delegates to liave discuBsionsi with each other.
