Makotuku Schocl Affairs. At the monthly meeting of the Makotuku School Committee there were present - Messrs J. Palmer (chairman), M. Carruthers, P. W. 'Aaderson, W. Mildon and G. Harding (hon. secretary). Mr A. Neilson, tho head-teaeh-er, reported the roll number as 38, tho average attendance being 36.6. Mr E. Mr J. B. A'Deane, superintended tho had paid a risit to tho school in con-. nection with the calf-rearing and maQ-goid-growing competition. it was dseided to have part of the hedge on the voad boundary clipped and the remaiailer moved. The chairman reported tliat he had attended the general mcetiug of the Galf Club in Dannevirke when a decision was made extending the tiine for entry of caives and root growTng to October 18. The decoration work was in the hands of Mrs W. T. Smith and her committee. Mr .J B. A'Deane, superintended the supper room. The joint secretaries, Mr O. H. T. Smith Were iu charge oi' the fioor. Sheep Worrying in Takapau. Sheep worrying has been going on mthe Takapau district. Two dogs were found worrying Mr T, G. Prescott's sheep behind the Mhori pa. Tho alarm waa given but the dogs could not be caught and befOre nssistance could be proeured they had wandered to Mr N. M» Paulsen 's fiock, killing two and damaging others. A letter was received from the Loyal Ahuriri Lodge of Past Granda intimatiug that it was proposed to take ateps to form a Provlucial Lodge of Past OSicers. The secretary was instructed lo eudeavour to arraugo for a combined meeting of the Dannevirke, Napier, and Ruataniwha lodges at either Waipawa or Waipukurau. Bro. Bryce reported on the judgiag for the Alward Ritual Bhieid competition. A hearty voto of thanka was aeeordod to the judges, Bros. Bryce and Wallis. Demolition work in conneetion with the Oentral Hawke's Bay Power lioard's reconstruction oontract was ccmpleted yesterday afternoon. The work was begun last Monday by seven workmen employed by Messrs W. H. Aboott, Hastings. Waipukurau croquet Club Opens. Uwing to unfavourabib weather on Wednesday afternoon, the official opening of the Waipukurau Croquet ,(Club took place in Woods's tearooms. There was a large number of members present and feevefal visitors from tliO Dannevirke Croquet Club. The aftetnoon was speilt playiug flag "oOO." The president, Mrs. J.
