The contractor, he reported, has used both machines in the work of laying pipeS between the beach and Whakatu, and a start has been inade with the roinforced concrcto work at the beacli and ])ile-driving at the beach is now iti progress. It Jms been found nocessary to excavate a portion of bad foundaItion at the lagoon near tlie beach and provide a shingle foundation to carry the xeinforced concrete culvert.
