A.A. IN ERROR

"Poached Eggs" That Did Not Exist MR. MADDISON'S C0MMENT "This is the flrst we heard of the matter and I want to say now that tho statements that ha,ve been made by the Automobile Assoeiation have been quite erroneous," said the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, at the meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening when correspondence was received from the Commissioner of Transport regarding central traffic domes that were supposed to exist in Hastings. The Commissioner wrote in the nrst place stating that he had .been advised that at oertain intersections, the old type of traffic dome in the centre of the intersection was still retained and pointed out that these were not desirable and wero n possible source of aanger to traffic. Boilowing upon the receipt of this letter tho Mayor instructed the Town (Jlerk to write to the , .Comniissioiier pointing out that the information supplied to him was totally incorrect, as there was nq intersection in Hastings that had a centre traffic dome, and sug* gesting that the department should verify the correctness of any information supplicd to it before writing to the council, and asked that the name of the person suppiymg this information be given to the council. In response to this the Commissioner stated; "This matter was taken up oiiicially with the Department by the Antomobilq Assoeiation (Hawke's Bay) and particuiar mention was made of Hastings in this connection. Had the representations been made by a priyale individual I would certainly have asked for veriiicatiou, bufc as it was actually rgported by the Auiomobile Assoeiation gecretary qn tue instruction of his council, tlie statement was considered to be On good authority. I propose to taka this, matter up with the Automobile Assoeiation." "It is most desirable that there shoiild be pQ-operation among the locaJ bodies and organisations in the district and I considpr that the Automobile Assoeiation, if it has any observances to make that affeet the local bodies in the particuiar district that it represents, that as a matter of courtesy it ghould iirst approach the local body concerned before complaining to the department" said the Mayor. "I feel that this complaint should have been made in the iirst case to this council. Tha complaint was quite unfounded on facts. IV e are not transgressors of the xeguiations. We are quite competent Oi' lnteipreting the regulations and quie competent also of Qarrying out the regUlAtiOIls,,, It was decided that the correspondenee be "received" and. that a copy of same be forwarded to the Autoiqobi'e Assoeiation with a suggestion that it might iirst have referred to the council before writing tp the Commissioner.
