(From Our Own Correspondents), Young Farmers. There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Norsewood Young Farmers' Club which was held in the reading-room. The chairman, Mr Maleolm Oisen, presided. Mr E. N. Hogben, principai of the Dannevirke High Schoo'l, delivered an illuminating address on "National Intelligence, " which which much appreciated. Mr Hogben was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. At a subsequent meeting of the committee it was decided to send a delegate, Mr Bay Summerville, to attend the Boyal Show at Palmerston Norch for the catfle-judging competition, to be held in conjunction with the New Zealand Young Farmers' Club. Ormondville Lodge, At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Forest Home Lodge, the Noble Grand, Bro. Haycock, presided over a good attendance. Correspondence was received from the Dannevirke Hospital Board and the Friendly Societies' Couneil thanking Forest Home Lodge for its assistance with the coronation cot which j has been duly installed in the Dannevirke Hospital. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £59 were passed for payment. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs Pike upon the death of her husband, the late Bro. C. H. Pike. Bro. G. S. Chapman reported having visited the Loyal Sister Wallace Lodge during the week-end. Makotuku W^C.T.U.

An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the residence of Mrs A. Burnett, the occasion being the ninth birthday of the Makotuku branch of the Women 's Christian Temperance Union. There was a good attendance of members and their ! friends. During the afternoon the Bev. j A. E. Waite^ of • Dannevirke, gave a I most helpful and interesting address. A ! solo contributed by Miss Betty Wilton was well rendered and much appreciated, as was also a pianofOTte solo by Mrs J. Dally. Mrs Waite, of Dannevirke, was present and represented the Dannevirke branch of the W.C.T.U. The handsome birthday cake was made by Miss M. Mildon. Mrs Wilton lit the candles on the cake, while Miss Betty Wilton blew them out. The cake was cut by the vice-president, Miss A. F. AVebb, of Ormondville. The next meeting which will be the annual one will be held at the residence of Mrs W. Mildon. Lkundry Returns. During the eix months endeil September 30, 59,605 pieces were laundered at the Waipukurau District Hospital, as against 56,860 for the same period last year. The figures for the Pukeroa Sanatorium were 66,072 and 97,191. • "No Surprlse." "This is no surprise. I expected it six months ago," remurked Mr \V. H. Rathbone, chairman of the Waipawa Hospital Board, at yesterday's meeting when a letter from the Palmerston Noith Hospital Board advised that it had been found necessary to increase the fees at the Otaki Sanitorium from 9/- to 10/- a day as from October 1. Saying that he quite agreed with the Palmerston Board's decision, and remarking that they could not avoid it, the chairman moved that the letter be received and the increase agreed to. The managing-secretary, Mr P. R. Smyrk, pointed out that, despite all the increases in costs and the fact that in both cases increases in fees had been found necessary, at neither Pukeora nor Otairi were the fees any higher now than when they had been taken over by the Waipawa and Palmerston North Boards respectively. Waipukurau Hospital Appreciated. "We get as many of these compliments, on a percentage basis as any board in New Zealand," commented tho chairman, Mr W. H. Rathbone, at the Waipawa Hospital Board's meeting yesterday, when he moved that a letter of appreciation be passed on to the staff. Mr R. Fullerton had written expressing appreciation of the treatment given his son while a patient at the District Hosptial. The managing-secre-tary, Mr P. R.
