Man "Matches Wits Against Society" "HUSBAND" UNAWARE OF DECEPTION

(Received 13, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Ocfc. 11, A flippant remark by a man t'rom whom he sought work — "Why don't you go home and powder your nose?" — was stated in Court to have inspired a ten-years masquerade as a woman by WilJiain Richeson, aged 26, who was charged with disorderly conduct. The probation officer 's report said that Richeson was originally arraigned in the Women 's Court. His- sex was not discovered until he bathed at the women 's prison. The report continued that Richeson claimed that he was not abnormal but was merely matching his wits against society. He was unable to find work after leaving school and decided to masquerade after the "powder your nose" remark, after which he Was employed as a nurse, waitress, laundress and choru? girl. Richeson six years ago married a man with whom he had lived ever since. Tho husband was still unaware of the deception and was not informed of it, ' because he was ' ' nladly in love with his wife and might do something desperate." Richeson was sentenced" to 90 days' imprisonment.
