Concrete Power-Poles
■ HARDWOOD.
Sir — You will no doubt remember the great "song and dance" when the Centrai ELaWke's Bay Power Board decided to make concrete poles and how £30 a week would be paid in wages. with at least 12 months' work, Approximately £700 was spenfc on the plant and approximately 400 poles have been made, but the plant waa -closed down for live weeks. while a new design was being prepared. Then the six men, and a boy were taken on again and I am led to believe that at least a year's work was ahead. Cn Wednesday three men were given notice' as. there are sufficient poles made for immediate uSe and, according to .the engineer's. report (unofficial), there does not appear any need for "more poles unless for replacement of woruout wooden poles. This iooks .to me iike misroanagement. .Cf course, this letter does not pretend to give exact figures and facts, but the same can be got from the reporf of the visit to the pole-factory of the members of Chamber of Commerce,- which was fully reported in the Press. — Yours, etc.,. ^
