Large Crowd in Attendance Despite adverse weather conditions, there was a large and representative gathering at the opening oi' the Kia Toa Bowling Club's season on Saturday. "The president, Mr N. J. Adamson, in extending a welcome to the visitors, stated that he was pleased to sce representatives from a majority of the clubs in the district, and wished all a pleasant afternoon's bowling. He paid tribute to Mr W. Harris, greenkeeper, for the excellent state of the green, which, he said, visitors had informed him, they had never seen in such excellent condition. He also thanked the ladies, especially Mrs J.. W. Graham for the assistance- rendered to the club, and concluded by wishing all a pleasant and successful season. Bowling commenced after Mrs Adamson had rolled up the first bowl. Details of the games are as follows: — Wairere: Byrne, Butcher, Frater, Burr 22 Dalnair, L»ewsnt.p, VV. 'lar'is and Adamson 9. Heretaunga : Wells, Hickmott, Newton, Preston-Thomas 21; Horton, Paul, Lincoln, McArtliur 25. Napier: Sharples, Belcher, Wright, Williams 30; Palmer, Paynter, Arbens, Burge 9. National Service: McKain, Bainbridge, Richardson, Toothill 24 ; Johnson, Young, Lassen, Sykes 16. Hastings: Claughton, Aitken, Pickering, Garland 24; Havelock North: Murray, E. Joll, Bygum, Smith 20. Omarunui: Williamson, Colbeek, Wilson, Jarvis 13; Kerr, Hart, Somervell, Ross 23. Ordinary games : — Somervell, Chapman, Graham, Sykes 23 ; Bracon, Cowlrick, Ingrain, McArthur 15. Holliver, Parkhill, Doak 14; Horton, Cooper, Coxon 21.
