HASTINGS ORPHANS HOLD FINAL KORERO OF SEASON
The 1937 season of the Hastings GrpHans' Qub was br'ought to a close last evening with a particularly excellent ladies' night at which a splendid programme was enjoyed by a large number of orphans who were present with their wives and friends. This korero concluded a • most successful season. Chief Orphan Donald Campbell was in the chair'and the programme opened with a inarch played by the orchestra. The Orphan' s Club orchestra, conducted by Mr. C. Bryant, is' an excellent one and has given inuch pleasure to the audience on numerous occasions and once again it contributed several selections to last , evening's enjoyable programme. The items were very varied and each one ' received well-earned applausp, many encores being demanded. After the opening oda had been sung the Chief Orphan made several annouh.eements and then. the musical programme commenced. ± Vocal solos, which weni much enjoyed, were given by Orphan Wakelin and later by Mrl Venner, of Waipawa, whoSe . rather humorous items were most heartily applauded. Orphan Jackson also gave vocal items and two very delightful -songs wer© sung by the Maori male quartet, Messrs M. Wliakamoe, R. Puiri, R. Paraki and W. Mataira sang two solos. Piano accordeon .numbers were cleverly played by Orphan C. Neale. and two cornet-duets by Orphans McPherson and Jones were also enjoyed. '/ Piano solos played by Orphan Cofbett gave great pleasure. A considerable number of -humorous items were included on the programme, tiiese being very capably given by Orphans And'y Robertson, G. Hardenburg. and H. Gfll. Qnite a novel item which was heartily applauded was given by Orphan Barden who caused much mirth with his very clever lightning sketches. A competition held during the evening was won by Mrs. J. Chamberlain with Mr. W. Cate second, and Mr. Gilbert Lloyd third, the prizes being kindly donated by Orphans H. Gill and R. Nimon and an anonymous donor. At the conclusion of the programme the chief orphan ektended his thanks to the officers and committee who had given such splendid assistance. tlirough out a, very successful season. Musical

After the closing ode had been sung every'on'e joihcu hands foh "Auld Lang Syn6" and the evening was brougkt to a close with the singing of the National • Antliem.
