20-MINUTE PARKING
Havelock Town Board's Decision REPORTS PRESENTED TO MEETING ' A decision to enforce a 20-minute parking limit on the eastern side of Te Mata road at Havelock in f ront of all occupied business premises between the English Church and Joll road, was reached at the meeting last eyemng ojf the Havelock Nofth Town Board. A recommendatipn that this course should be adopted was made by the clerk, Mr W. H. Anderson. At tbe present time, he said, shopkeepers were dissatisfied at the way taxis were standing in front of their premises. . - " It is certainly not fair to shopkeepers," remarked Mr A. Toop, "and I think the time limit is a very good idea. ' ' The clerk in his report said: — " General maintenance work has been f-arned out in all parts of the district. The -taxi-stand has been esthblished opposite the taxi-proprietor's own right-of-way and the bus-stand has been reduced in size as directed. All traffie llnes on roads and paths have been re-. painted. ''Three new connections have been made to the water supply; l,539,00.0i gallons of water' have been putnped and . ,;>34,U00 galions Consumed,' leaving a surplus of 5,000 .gallons, Three connections have ljeen . made to the board 's sewerage system ' ^tnd ' 4.19 drivers ' licences have been issued since Jiine 1, 14 of- this nuniber having been issued during the past month. ,Twp appli* eants failed to pass the test on their iirst - application. Forty-one heavy- - traffie licences have been issued and two building permits — one for a residence ■ (£1000) and one for alteratipns to a residence £250). "Once again- the sanitary inspector reporfes that no ; ca'ses of infectious diseases have been notified. All food-sel-lers' premises have been inspected and .found .to ,be in a satisfactory condition." • The report of the cemetery committee states: ' "We have made our monthly visit to the cemetery and found the property to-be in satisfactory condition, consider-' ing that the whole of the' work has now to be done by the sexton without assistance. The drive at the top of Blo.ck M has been completed, thus opening up quite a lot of "neiv ground. The completion of the extension job also. open up . some new grouhd at the top of the south- western sectioii. " For the past ifive years it had been the custom to give some attention to those plots on which upkeep had nbt been paid, but it is now the intention of the committee to attend only to those graves.on which either permanent or annual upkeep charge are paid. Owing to the increased costs of materials and wages we fear that. the cemetery account will show a considerable, loss • this . year unless mpre : plot-owners re^pond to our appeal for contfibutions towards upkeep. " We recommend , that the clerk be instructed again to circularise those people who have not subseribed to upkeep or the current year. We have no recommendation to make in the matter of leasing the new ground, and have iirstrueted the -clerk- to bring the matter for.ward iOr consideration in committee."
