TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD HOLD SOCIAL EVENING
A. jolly evening 's entertainment with cards and dancing was arranged by members of the social circle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild and held in the O-ddf ellows ' Hall last evening, when quite a number of guild members accompanied by their husbands and friendis wore present. The social circle was formed with the idea of its members being responsible for the organisation of entertainments to raise funds for the guild and havmg as its main object in view the purchase of a hall for guild use. Exceedingly few appeals are made by the guild for funds and the members feel that it would be so ideal to have a hall for meetings that an eifort would be well worth while.
Last evening the main hall was set aside," for dancing, mostly old-time dances, and the nyasic was played by Mre, l)unn. The stage was gail^ decorated with large baskets of Joveiy pink and white cherry blossom4 white flag 'lilies and scarlet rhododendrons. (Jaffds were played in the supper-room where the decorations were bowls of orange and. yellow iceland poppies and foliage. The winners of the 500 tournament were: Ladies, Mrs Campbell; men, Mr Le Compte. 'The hostess for the evening was Mrs E. Riley, the leader of the social committee, who wore a gown of black georgette with insete of needlerun lace, with a diamante clasp at the neck. bhe wore a black velvefc coatee and a spray of cyelamen shaded sweet-peas. The secijetary of the circle, Mrs G. Steevens, wore. a gown of black taffeta aiid coatee of flowered mirror velvet. .Mrs A. E. Glenny, the guild president, wore a gown of black* and whito flowered silk and a blask velvet even- i iug coat with collar of white fur. Mrs F. Deans, the secretary, wore wine mariette with a pink corsage spray and black coatee. Mrs A. O. A. Hyde4 the treasurer, wore brown and fawn patterned silk gown with a brilliant studded clasp at the neck. . A delicious supper which was enjoyed by everyone was supervised by a member of the exeeutiv© of the social circle, Mrs €. P. Hopkins, who wore uavy blue georgette with hand-mado white flowers at the neck. Other executive members presmt were Mrs W. Bryant, who wore a gown of deep blue matelasse with white lace at the neck, and Mrs Kelly in a gown of black georgette with scarlet sash. During the evening a recitation was given by Miss Constance Dewson, who chose Ohjistoh,, and after a hearty encore, * ' Mrs 'Arris." Vocal soloa which were much enjoyed were gxven by Mr Bryant.
