STATE THEATRE
. - TWO rEATTJBES TO-NieBT. Two.f eatures of, unusual . excelleneo 'w.ill be preserited'at the' State Theatre to-night. ■ Edward -Everett- - Horton is baek again in f ' The- ;Mah -in .the ..Mirror," a startling,. ofiginal' and highly amuslhg film. Creating'.'a welcome precedent in film mystery, storifes,.'1 The Great Hospital Mystery/' Ths'entieth Century-Fox adaptation of a Mignon Eberhardt story, offers a super-surprise solution, not mixed with hilarity, in which the culprit is not the person one would be leaist likely to suspect. Romance, hilarity and music in
generous portions are provided in Paramount's "Waikiki Wedding," the gay comedy of love in the- pineapple groves with Bing Crosby, Bob Burns, Martha Raye and Shirley Ross which will commence screening at the State Theatre to-morrow. The romance is between Crosby and Miss Ross ahd, in.lighter vein. Burns and Miss -Raye. Crosby is a press agent whose job ; it is to keep Miss Ross, who won a trip to Waikiki in a contest, properly thrilled with the glamour of the place. He has to resort to considerable trickery to accomplish this. He falls in love with the girl and is reduced to the neceasity of undoing his trickery with honest romancing^ to wiu her. The direction was skilfully handled by Frank Tuttle who is thoronghly at home with this type of comedy. The photography is beautiful and there are a number of native ceromonial dances which will long be r»membered. In partieular there is » native wedding, and a barbarie "drum dance," performed by Miri Rei, the Tahitian dancfir who proved the sensation of the Ziegfeld Follies several yeaTS ago, which can be cla'ssed among tho most effectivo motion picture scenos capturcd by tho camera.
