Efforts to Re-'estahlish the Industry

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The correspondent of the Press Association, writing from Earotonga, statesi pwing mainly to the poor pricea received by growers of Cook Islands fruit, the industry has lapsed during the last seven years, partieularly tiie citrng in* dustry. In an endeavour to develop the industry the Administration ' is making every ett'ort to encourage growers to renovat© and prune their trees and further the establishment of a nursery from which growers can obtain young trees. The growers have respohded wonderfully to tlie pruning campaign in Earotonga, and seed beds have been planted out. The steani'er Limerick, which called at Aitutaki, Atiu and Earotonga towards the end of last montli, loaded approximately 12,000 boxes of tomatoes. With the exception of a probable shipment of oranges from * Aitutaki in November there will be no more 0 range shipments from the Cook Islands this season.
