MR. ROBERT BISHOP

The death occurred in Napier last night of Mr. Bobert Bishop, at tha .age of 83 years. Mr. Bishop was for many years deputy Offieial Assignes in Napier, and before that he was a well-known member of the commercial World, being manager of Sargood, Son and Ewen's Napier branch. Mr. Bishop was born in London and Was brought up to commercial pursuits. For a number of years before coming to New Zealand he was employed in a large warehouse in London, and later in Napier he beeame manager of Sargood, Son and Ewen's branch. Mr. Bishop came to New Zealand in 1874 by the ship Haleione and landed in Wellington. He joined the firm of A. P. Stewart, Harcourt and Co., which later became SaTgood, Soh and Ewen. For over 18 years Mr. Bishop represented these ilrins in various parts of New Zealand before being appointed manager of the Napier branch in 1893. He was a Freemason, and a prominent bowler. ' TJpon his retirement from his position with Sargood, Son and Ewon, Mr. Bishop was appointed deputy Offieial Assignee in Napier. * He held this position for 11 years before going into complete retirement about 1927. Mr. Bishop was a man o*f sterling ckaraeter and one who will be greatly missed. He leaves a widow and four soiis and daughtors.
