Former Resident oi New Zealand INTEREST IN AMATEUR SPORT The man who brought a letter of 8*adwill from the Premier of Albei'ta, Mr, W. Aberhart, to tEe Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, is at present visiting Hast-' ings. He is Mr. Geo. Dewe, of JEdmonton, Canada, and js making a leisurely tour of New Zealand extolling the beauties of Canada and renewiiig old acquaintances and assoeiations in this country after many years abroad. Mr, Dewe is visiting his brother'e grandson, Mr. N. J. Robson, of Hastings, and hopes to undertake a detailed holiday tour of the district. He first came to New Zealand jn 1874 on the clipper §hip Scimitar, whieh made a record trip of 70 days. For 39 years he was a resident of New Zealand and was With the firm of Kempthorne Ptobsor Ltd., in Christchurch, and for some time was in Invercargill, later moving to various places in ihe North Island. After the death, of his Wjfe in 1912 he left for Canada, taking up residence in Edmonton, Alberta, where he has taken -an active interest in amateur sport. CricJket is his speciality, and he was lesponsible for arranging aii interprovincial tournament in 1926, his effqrts in this .regard being recognised by the presentation of . a gold watch from the representatives of the various assoeiations. Mr. Dewe is the author of a book "Oricket Throughout the - Empire." It is Mr. Dewe's intention to write a book on his experiences in New Zealand, and one of his first impressions of Hawke' s Bay was- the magnitude oi the sheep-farming activities in this province. . -
