CREAM AND RED SCHEME AT HASTINGS WEDDING

GRYLLS — SHAKESPEARE A lovely colour scheme of deep cream and anemone red was effectively carried out for the wedding last evening of Beatrice Ena, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Shakespeare, Alexander street, Hastings, and Norman David, second son of Mr and Mrs G. Grylls, Brooklyn, Wellington. The Rev. C. B. Boggis officiated at the ceremony at the Baptist Church, Hastings, where the flowers were artistically arranged in the cream and red scheme by girl friends of the bride. Mr W. Kean presided at the organ and the hymns sung were: "How Welcome Was the Call," and "O Perfect Love." During the signing of the register a solo was sung by Miss Sowersby. A gown of heavy satin in a rich cream shade was worn by the bride, who was escorted by her father. The gown was fashioned with a, cluster of flowers at the neck and long sleeves shirred at the shoulders, while the bodice was shaped to a point at the waist. The long train was flared from the waist anci had insets of lace flowers and leaves which matched the lovely veil of deepest cream chantilly lace, which fell from a lialo of orange blossom and tiny lilies to form a second train. She wore cream velvet shoes with filigree buckles and carried a sheaf composed of rosebuds, freesias, sweet peas, miniature stocks and maidenhair fern. The two maids who attended the bride were the Misses Jessie Gigg (chief) and Elsie Davis and they jvore redingotes of cream stiffened net mounted on pale primrose satin. The redingotes were very fitting at the waist and wero caught with satin covered buttons while a pleated frill trimmed the hem of the full skirt, slashed cowl sleeves and neckline at which was a posy of 'flowers. Each maid wore a wreath of tiny cream and red flowers and carried a bouquet in these shades composed of freesias, sweet peas and roses. There presents from "the bridegroom were chromium and pearl pendants. Mr Ernest Grylls, of Wellington, was tlie best man and Mr Ronald Shakespeare, the groomsman. . " The reception was held in the Baptist School hall which was artistically decorated with cream and red flowers. The thee-tiered cake was iced in cream and was topped with a miniature vase of natural flowers. During the reception vocal soles were given by Mr Bewley and Miss Olive Nelson. The guests were received, by Mr and Mrs W. Shakespea're, the latter wearing a navy matelasse gown with jewelled clasp at the neck and a navy ballibuntal hat trimmed with cyclamen flowers. Her posy of sweet peas and forgetmenots was in the same cyclamen shades. Mrs G. Grylls, the bridegroom's mother, wore a nigger brown tailored costume with beige blouse and.a brown hat and her posy . was composed of autumn tinted flowers. After leaving the church the bridal party paid a visit to Royston Hospital to see a friend of the bride's, Miss Hughes, who is at present an inmate there. When the bride and bridegroom, left for their honeymoon, a motor tour of the North Island, the bride travelled in a very smart tunic suit in a rich rust shade trimmed with tucking and having a gold filigree clasp at the neck. Her little toque in the same shade had a tyre-roll brirn and she wore brown accessories. Many beautiful presents were received, among them being two presentations to the bride, a beaten brass log box from the staff of Messrs Westerman and Co., and an eiderdown from the firm. '• Among the guests were the bride's grandmother, Mrs Shakespeare, who wore a black and white ensemble and carried a violet shaded posy ; Mrs E. Grylls (Wellington), the bride's sister, who wore a brown English worsted costume with pink blouse and brown hat. and Mr and Mrs W. Shakespeare, jnr., the bride's brother and sister-in-law.
