FAT CATTLE SALE Values Ruling at Stortford To-day A SMALL YARDING A very firm market tuled for fftt cattle at Stortford Lodge to-day, when only a small yarding pf 150 head was offered. Good quality sorts were in short supply* and all lots showing finish were readily competed for. Poorer quality and nnfinished sorts did not meet with the same keen selling, and values for these if anything were a shade easier, due to the butchers not handling pens which did not shbw. reasonable finish, Very few pens of ox beef were offered. The outstanding lots were oa account of Mr. Robert Harding of Rau« kawa, which. made to 45/- per 100 lb. Heifers predominated the female pens, and most of these were in light condition. Prime finished entries made 42/6 per 100 lb., the market being topped by an excellent entry from Gwavas Station. A number of medinm prime • pens ranged from £9 to £ll. The cowpens provided a wide range of quality, mueh of which was not ready for tho immediate requirementa of butchers. The top price was £15 for an extra prime entry on account of Gwavas Station. Smaller-framed, prime finished pens ranged from £10 10/- to £13. Vealers and runners were not on offer. , Realisations woto as under, OX BEEF RATES. On account of Mr. Robert Harding, Raukawa, four medium heavy dehorned Hereford bullocks, very solidly finished and in splendid condition, sold at £15 15/-. These bullocks represented extra good prime ox beef, which waa eagerly competed for. Also in from Raukawa four soiall to medium-grown dehorned Hereford bullocks, equal in finish and quality to the previous pen, attractive young prime cattle, sold at £12 5/-. A pen of three crossbred heavy bullocks, lacking the quality of the Raukawa lot, but being heavier, sold to £14 5/-s HEIFER PEICES, Down from Opoutama, a medium to heavy solidly-finished extra prime Shorthorn heifer, showing splendid quality, realised £12 10/-. From the same source, a single enod* ium-weight Hereford heifer,, in similar finislx and showing extra good quality, realised £12, On account of Mr. Alf Symes, Longlands, a single heavy extra prime Aberdeen Angus heifer, very solidly finished and extra good quality young beef, realised £13 16/-. In the same pen two similar-bred. medium-groyn heifers, equally well finished, a very attractive entry, sold at £12. From Opoutama, an Aberdeen Angus cross heavy heifer, very solidly finished and in extra prime condition, met with keen bidding to seU at £14. On account of Gwavas Station, a single extra prime 'well-bred young Aberdeen Angus heifer, showing exceptional quality, was readily sougbt aftec to top the market at £14 10/-. On aeeount of Mr. J, J. Gatenby, aa entry of Aberdeen Angus cross heif-^ ers, medium frames and well finiBhed, a good butcher's quality line, Sold t« £12 6/-. On account of the same vendor, sis; well-bred, medium-grown Aberdeen Angus heifers, in light to prime finish, made to £9 15/-. A further entry from the sama source, of rather smaller-framed Aber^ deen Angus cross heifers, showing ft little more finish, made to £9 18/6. COWBEEF VALUES. Five medium-framed dehorned Shorthorn cows, showing a solid finish, and good weighing sorts, made £11 for the heaviest. On aeeount of Gwavas Station, m single exceptionally heavy extra prime Aberdeen Angus cow realised £15. Thie cow carried the best condition seen in a cow in the yards for a long time. On account of Penlee Station, seven Aberdeen Angus and dehorned Here? ford cows, medium fxamed and medium finsh, sold to £10 10/-. On account of Mr. J. J. Gatenby, four dehorned Shortliorn-Hereford cross young medium framed cows, showing a good finish, made £10.
