The method of taking count of th« unemployed has been revised, and th# latest figures are compiled on a new basis, aliowance being" made in th« comparisons with earlier dates. Th* revision was undertaken with a view to esuring greater accuracy. The Ministry. of Labour provisionally estimates that at September 13 tho number of insured persons in employ* ment in Britain, exciusive of person! within the agrieultural scheme, wasapproximately 11,599,000. On a comparative basis there was • decrease of about 7000 compared with the month before, but an increase of about 473,000 compared with a year before. At the same date the number of registered unemployed was 1,339,204, comprising 1,090,976 wholly unemployed,. 191,737 temporarily laid off, and 56,500 normally m casual cmployment. On a comparablc basis there was an lucrease of about 30,000 compared with Lli0 month before, but a decrease of 230,000 compared with the year before, Tho total included 1,034,809 rnea, 39,793 boys, 222,905 women aud 41,697 girls.
