DUNEDIN, This Day. The most pleasmg icature ,of the training work at Wingatui this morning was the marked improvement in the tracks and the eourse proper. For the first time since February iwo-year-olds were allowed to gallop on the course proper next to the raiis. With a continuation of the present weather the going will be perfect on Thursday. N. Cutts,/wno arrived overnignt with Lazybones, Haughty Winner, and Great Memory, was out, first, but his team were only given light exeycise. Great Baby and lnvoice wero worked next to tfie rails on the course proper. but wero not on time-making missions, ^oth look well. ilanlon and Gaynor wero sent over six furlongs only, sprinting down tlie ■straight. Both looic well after racing at Kurow. Grand . Finalo was goiug slightly better than Pink Kobe at the end of seven furlongs on the inside grass track, after cutiing out the first tnree in 39 3-5secs. 'xney completed the journey in 1.34 3-5. Lord Nufiield pieked up Combat after the latter had galloped two furlongs, and was doing better at the end of six furlpngs on the grass in 1.19 4-5. Gambler's Luck just shaded Half Note at the end of six furlongs on the plough in 1.19 1-5. Lumiere drew, right away from Pink Del over the coneluding atages of five furlongs on the grass in 1.5. JNatty and Sunny Joan worked together over a similar course, but were not extended to run 1.15. Gusto, with a mato, took 52 4-5secs. to run a half-mile on the grass. Uur Pal, who had the worst of Yhe weights, beat Compensate by a' nose over three furlongs next to the rails on the course proper in 37 2-5secs.
Vallock sprinted three furlongs on the plough in 37 2-5secs.j moving well ' all the way. New Note, also working alone, took 1.6 to run five furlongs on the same track. Last Link and Great Pal sprinted over the last three furlongs of half a mile on the/ grass in 40secs. The latter was blistered on the shoulder a few weeks ago. but is now returning to form. - Araboa and McHeath were sent a mile on the grass. After running half the distance in 52 3-5secs. they finished almost on even terms in 1.43. McHeath appeared to be going tho better of the pair. Alma was going easily throughout half a mile on the grass in 54 '2-5secs. Ortyx .jumped away well behind the three-furlong disc and recorded 35 3-5sece. for three furlongs next to the rails on the course proper. The filly was heavily bandaged on one of the forelegs.
MaTy Pratt ran the last three furlongs of half a mile in 34 4,-5secs. on the grass. Norseman was going better than Toreador over five furlongs on the plough in 1.12. vajantua was beaten by Brilliant Boa over five furlongs on the grass in 1.3 2-5, the latter moving very attractively.
