Work on Roads and Bridges

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The clerk-engineer, »Mr . It. B. Price, reported as follows - to the monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County L'ouncil : — Hatuma Riding. — Patching, has been done on the Maharakeke road and a small culvert has been placed on the Hatuma-Takapau highway. A 36-inch pipe culvert at the foot of Burnett's Hill has collapsed and will need to be jseplaced. All roads have been kept graded and are in good order. The Nghape . Bridge has been redecked throughout and is now in a condition to carry the.loads limited to the road. The Tukituki river has cut in seriously near Coughlans and the council would be well advised to plant willows in an ett'ort to check further erosion. The Borough Council may be prepared to assist as their property is also affected by the turn the river has taken. Mt. Heybert Riding. — The two small bridges oii Middleton road have been redecked also a small bridge at the foot of Tangatupara hill. The unsealed portion of Porangahau road lias been patched and the grader has worked four days on main haghways apd six days on riding roads. A pipe culvert on Mount Herbert road will need extending as the hlling breaks away, leaving a hole on the edge of the road. The potholes on Wanstead road will be patched early next week as the bitumen required has just arrived. Purimu Riding. — A large slip completely blocked the Tourere-Whetukura road on Robinsons Hill and a car track was out througli and the slip left to u-y out. Nuuierous small slips on this rere cleartid and a washout fllled m. The roads in this ridiug are in l'air order, but will require patching Irom time to time. Tlie report was adopted, and it was decided, on the chairman's motion, to approach the Borough Council and the Power Board for assistance in preventing further erosion of the banks of the Tukituki
