Annual .Meeting Held at Waipukurau

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Neariy thirty members' attended tho annual meeting of the Russell Paris Tennis Club, Waipukurau, last night. Mr L. J. Bell was in the chair. The following new members were eleeted: — Misses V. Renner, Jean Fowler, A. Howard, D. Noble, P. O'Connor, H. Brassel, J. Faithful, M. Fleming and V. Bowley, Messrs V. Richards, G. Brassel, I. Renner and P. Smith. The annual report and balance-sheet stated that, after being practically in recess for two years, the club had been revived and the past season had been most successful. The club started the season with a credit balance of £3 15/7, but had an outstanding account of £3 7/10 to raeet, which left a balance of 7/9. After buying two nets, four forms, a primus stove, some crockery, and having the courts leveiled and patched, the credit balance was £3 18/11. At the end of the season the club had 48 members, comprising women, 23 rnen and three juniors. All members were iinancial. Several mter-club matches had been played and, although the club was not strong enough in most cases, the standard of play waa much improved by the matches, and with further improvement in the coming season, the club should be better able to compete with other clubs. Noticeable improvement in play was also brought about by a number of yan'kee and hau dicap tournaments. Members had assisted readily in pr«paring the courts for play at the begmning of the season, and the women to be congratulated on their efficient catering on all necessary occasions. The club's thanks were due to Mr N. S. auditor had left the district, and the Macdonald and Mr J. T. Pike,. who had generously carried out his duties. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: — Patron and patroness, Mr and Mrs E. McLean; president, Mr L. J. Bell; vice-presidents, Messrs J W. Turtle, H. A. Sherf and D. H. Clark; club captain, Mr C. L. Williams;' vice-captain, Mrs N. Jopson; hon. secretary, Mr G. Hunter; hon. auditor, Mr L. Liddell; committee, Misses B. Tinney, N. Reedy, S. tSchroder, Messrs J. Btaines, M. Holms, and D. Taylor. It was agreed that snbscriptions should remain the same as last year, and that all non-members who played on courts should be asked to pay a visiting fee of 1/-. Last year's subscrxptions were £1 (reducible to 15/- if paid by November 1) for men, 15/- (reducible to 10/-) for ladies and 2/6 for juniors. The meeting agreed that, to stimulate interest in club play, it be recommended to the committee that a button competition be instituted. It was also recommended that A and B teams be seleeted, one to play a home match while the other travelied. The opening day was fixed for Weduesday, October 13. Votee of thanks were passed to the retiring club-captain (Mr L. J. Bell, and to the secretary (Mr M. Holms).
