GISBORNE, This Day. Hopes for early settlement of the dispute which has held up all waterfront work at Gisborne for the past 12 days are entertained as the result of the arrival from Wellington last night of ofiicials of the Waterside Employers' Association and Watersiders' Federation, who are conferring with the parties this morning. The position for the past week has remain cd unaltered, the ehipowners dtclining to call for labour for the other vcssels until ganga have been provided for the Karepo. The union coptends that three gangs of 17 men each jShould. bo engaged oh this ship, but the owners insist that, after the general cargo has been unloaded, the gangs should be reduced to 11 each for the handling of coal. , In addition to the Karepo, the Mako and the Margaret W. have been held up, while the Pakura, which arrived this morning, will also be affected unless a settlement is reached.
