Succumbs After K.O. INQUEST OPENED

GREYMOUTH, Last Night. The inquest was opened to-day into the death of the boxer Stan Smith, who died from haemorrhage after being knocked out by Jackie Sharpe, of Australia. Leonard W. Dalley, trainer and nianager for the deceased, said that the deeeased. was medically examined. on Saturday and pronounced fit. Witness expressed tho opinion that Smith won the first round. Smith was floored in the seeond and isaid at the interval that he did not feel too good, but he 6aid nothing about not continuing the figkt. When hit with a left and then a right hook to the jaw in the third round, Smith fell practically straight down on his faee. Witness did not think that Smith received the injury by the fall. Witness had no fault to find with Sharpe nor with the arrangements for the fight. He was satisfied that the injury was unavoidable. There was no feeling between Sharpe and Smith, who had not met previously. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
