STATE PARLIAMENT Electors Approve Reform of Upper House STRONGER COALITION
(Received 4, 8.45 a.m.) l MELBOURNE, Oct. 3. The Country Party Government, led .by iMr Dunstan and aetively supported by Labour, returns to power stronger than ever as a result of the General Election for the Legislative Assembly held yesterday. The probablo state of the parties in the new Parliament will be:— Laboar .t. 22 Country Party 21 United Australia Party . . 19 independent ........... 3 The state of the parties in tho formot Parliament was: — Labour ......1. ......... 18 Country 2.....,* 1^0 United Australia Party .. 24 Independent ........... 3 The United Australia Party membet» will probably lose on this occasion five seats, four to Labour and one' to a" woman Independent. All the Minister* have .been retumed, as well as the party leaders. The Dunstan Ministry went to thef country to secure a mandate for constit tutional reform of the Legislativ® Council. Both the Premier (Mr Duni stan) and the Labour leader (Mr Tunt necliffe) declared last night that th« outcome of the voting indicated th«approval of their political alliance and, approval of their campaign fpr the ion iorm of the Upper House.
