RIVERS BOARD CLERK
Mr W. J. O'Connell Appointed AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY Mr W. J. O'Connell, clerk to the Hawke's Bay County Council, was today appointed clerk to the H.B. Iiivers Board, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr W. J. Pallot. Mr O'Connell will carry out his new duties in addition to his present position with the County Council. The Rivers Board appointed Mr A. G. Pallot as treasucer and returning officer. The board deeided to pay tbe coqncil a definite sum for the services of Mr O'Connell and the general work by the council' s office staff for the Rivers Board. It was deeided that the conditions should be reviewed when the Ngaruroro" river scheme is completed. The board will have the right to terminate the agreement with the council at three months' notice. This arrangpment will bring about a closer co-op-eration of the two bodies with the strength that unity gives, while at the same tiine retaining for the board the complete independence which it now has. The ^rrangement is estimated to effect a groat saving on the present administration of the board. It will come before the County Council for approval on Monday next.
