BELIEVE IN LIFE.
"The whole issue between positive and negative is fundamentally one of belief, or, if the term be preferred, faith. The question is, Do you, or do you not, believe in life? Will you live to your utmost capacity, or will you sneak out? Will you take your part in the battle, or will you seek a safe retreat?" asks the Rev. J. C„ Hardwick in his hook "No Casual Creed." "The man who believes in life (and that is the only belief which counts) is not afraid of it, likc a timid bather who will not go in above his ankles. .Ho accepts life and plunges into the strcam, knowing that it will carry him. "Fear lies at the back of all pessimism and doubt. The man who has a negative attitude is really afraid of living. He cannot trust himself to life, he must keep something back. He cannot realise that to find himself he must be prepared to lose all, and actually do so. Fundamentally, he is afraid to live and seeks some way of escape from the demands made by life upon him . . . Love, we know, makes the world go round, but what is love but an extreme form of belief? When you believe in a thing or a person strongly enough you are willing to lose yourself therein. Beliefs which do not find an issue in action are not genuine beliefs at all.
