BOYS AND AIR-RIFLES
Magistrate Points Out Danger ^ Tliat legislation should be passed to prohibit tho entry into New Zealand of air-rifles, was tbe opinion expressed by Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Juvenile Court at Napier this tnorning when a hoy, aged 15, appeared before him charged with being in pussession of an air-gun and ammunition for it. The prosecution was the sequel to an accident in which. another youth was struck in the leg by a pellet from the weapon. The magistrate pointed out the danger existing from boys and youths hnvmg possession of air-guns. He stated that although it was not necessary that they should be registered under the Arms Act as a firearm, it was still an oil'ence under the Police Offences Act for a youth under 16 to be in possession of one. As the guns were used almost oxclusively by boys uuder this age, it appeared that there was no reason for their continued sale. Tho olfender was admonished and discharged.
