Steps Taken in Auckland

AUCKLAND, Last Night. iSteps being taken by the Auckland. Fish Export Committee to coiitrol the landing of fish in Auckland and its export and marketing overseas, were outlined in a statement made by the chairman, Mr. R. B. Prics, The committee commenced its work on September 17 and has since aisumed complete eontrol of the expoit of fish frmn Auckland, to Australia, together with all stocks held in store at Sydney and export stocks in Auckland. "Plans have been made which are immediately operative to deal with the more urgent problem, that of aecumn--jated stocks, which threatens to imperil .the industry by a serious curtailanent of the activitics of the jvaTious fishing fleets operating ifrom Auckland and near ports," the committee states. It was fully xealised that the intarests of everyone' connec'ted with the industry could only be safeguarded by co-operative effiort and eontrol, the statement continued. With, this end in view endeavours are being made' to obtain the co-operation of ex-. jporting firms in New Zealand, and Iwholesalers in Australia and a goodwill idelegation left by the Awatea to ex•plain fo the wholesalers in Sydney and' Melbourne the plans agreed upon by the committee to overcome the present : diffienlties. It. is antieipated that such : j& vist will result in the clearing up of |a lot of misunderstanding that has arisen in Australia, both prior to and subsequent to the setting up of the fish •export committee, which has resulted in a contraction of normal trading with its attendant nnsatisfactory repercussions in Auckland. The earliesfc possible opportupity wjll be availed of to 1 advise exporters of the plans adopted- • by the committee to meet present and futuro circumstances." 1
