Inspector Fitzpatrick Retiring from Police Force THREE MONTHS' LEAVE Inspector J. Fitzpatrick, in charge of the Napier police district, will retire on February 11, 1938, at the conclusion of 40 years' serviee in the New Zealand Police Force. He is to be granted three montKs' leave from November next, prior to his retireinent. As . a constable, the inspector was fir'st at Wanganui,, subsequently filling the respective positions of watch-house keeper, relieving officer for tlxe district, and mounted constable. He was later transferred to tne charge of the Marton police sub-district, to be there promoted to the Tank of sergeant and transferred fo Wellington. Following this he was stationed for a period at Palmerston North before being promoted to senior-sergeant and transferred to Wellington. Inspector Fitzpatrick left Gisborne, his next ■ station, to go to Christchurch as a sub-inspector, and some years later, having fimally been promoted to -inspector, he took charge of the Greymouth police district. His retura to the North Island came when, five yeara ago, he was transferred to the charge of the Napier police district. During his career in the force, the inspector has been awarded the Long bervice and Good Conduct medals, together with three silver clasps and , stars for the discharge of police dis- , tricfc in an efficient manner. This year, his services were further recognised, when he was made the recipient of a Uoronation medal. In his younger days, Inspector Fitzpatrick was well known as an athlete ' m Canterbury. The inspector and Mrs. Fitzpatrick will continue to reside in Napier after the inspector's retirement.
