HASTINGS ORPHANS' CLUB

Another Enjoyable Korero An enthusiastic korero of the Hastings OTphans' Club, the third of the season, was held last night. Despite the numerous counter-a'ttractions, there was a large attendance. A furtner batch of new mein tfbrs was initiated by Chief Orphan D. M. Campbell. Another high-class programme was presented and greatly enjoyed. The club's orchestra was in fine form, and played a number of items, includi*xig the overture, "The Eagle's Nest," a selection of gepas from "Maritana." by * special request, and a tuneful selection "ln the Hills of Old Kentucky." Detective-Sergeant Revell's reminiscences were partibularly interesting, and the speaker recounted several kumorous cases he had handled, and- outlined methods used by criminals. Orphan Pearce g^ve a Dickehs character it'em in costume, "Squeers Opens School" from Nicholas Nickleby, and later gave a humorous encore item. Orphan McPherson presented a cornet solo,'- and Orphan Corrigan sang Dvo songs. Tom Thornburrow did some conjuring and card tricks and shoAved tliat 'he was an adept at his line of entertainment. Orphan Guy Hardcnberg presented a humorous elocutionary item and va number of short stories.
