NAPIER MUSICIANS AT WAIPUKURAU B.M.S
Th-ere was an exceptionally large attendance at the monthly gathering of the Central H.B. branch of the British Music Society, held in the social room of the Women' s ltest, Waipukurau. An enjoyable programme was presented by a party of Napier musicians and vocalists. The visitors were welcomed by the chairwoman, Alrs. P. A. Riddle, and Mrs. Fieldhouse, was presented with a choice corsage spray. The following was the programme presented : — Sonata- in E for violin and piano (Handel) was effectively rendered by Mr. F. Hunt (violin) and Mr. W. T. Foster (piano). Their rendition of Schumann's Sonata and A Minor was equally good. Messrs. Hnnt and Foster also gave Allegro Con Brio from Sonata in D (Beethoven). Violin solos played by Mr. Hunt were Berceuse (Jarnfel), Slavonic Dance (Dvorak) Preludium and Allegro (Kreisler). Mr. W. Beiitley gave the following vocal solos : "Sombre Woods" (Lully), "For Music" (Franz), "To Anthea" (Hatton), "Pay Dreams" (Lassen), "Secrecy" (Wolf), "Serenada" (Raff), and "The Princess" (Hinricks). Other popular vocal items were contrihuted by Mrs. N. Fieldhouse, whose songs were: 'In Praise of God" (Beethoven), "On Wings of Song" (Mendelssohn),
"Sappische Ode" (Brahms), "Audacity" (Eville), 'Cuckoo" (Matin Show), 'A Soft Day" (Stanford), 'Serenade" (Bantock), fBold, Unbiddable Child" (Stanford) . Accompaniments were played by Mr. W. T. Foster, who delighted with Chopin's "Funeral Mareh" and an original composition, "Seaside Reverie." Mrs. Riddle thanked the visitors at the conclusion of the programme, and Mr. Foster, who replied, said it had been a pleasure to play to people so appreciative.
