' ' QUALITY STBEET' ' TO-NIGHT. Phoebe Throssel, quaint character of Sir James M. Barrie's "Quality Street," first brought to life by Maude Adams, has been recrcatcd by Katharino Hepburn in her own in-. imitablp manner for the screen version of tho play which sereens to-nigbt at th0 State Theatre. As co-star, Franchot Tone plays the role of Dr. Valentino Brown, A ten-year romancQ between thq two is interrnpted by the dashing young doctqr's enlistment to fight against Napoleon. The situations which arise after Yalentine's return form the base of the stpry. They are in turn quaint, humorous, appealing and strikingly dramatic, Besides Katharine Hepburn and Franchot Tone, the film also presents Fay Bainter, noted stage star, who portrays Susan Throssel, the "old maid" gister of Phoebe. Eric Blore, thQ fnnny batler of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals. is seen as the bluff and hearty recruiting sergeant. Estei.> Winwood and Helena Grant, stage favourites, have the roles of gossipy and curious neighbours, with Oora Witherspoon, another well-knowA stage aetress, as the pep* pory maid. Florence Lake, Bonita Granville and Joan Fontaine are also seqn in prominent roles.
