GUILD LITERARY CIRCLE HOLD MONTHLY MEETING

Miss H. Ford presided over the recent monthly meeting of the literary circle . of the Hastings TownsWomen 's Guild which was held in the G.F.S. rocm. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Jackson, Esler and Miss MacLean. Two new m«mbers were welcomed and this brings the membership to over forty. It was decided to make nest meeting on Octoher 22 an evening meeting. The progsanrao for the afternoon was an international ono and the following members read extracts about different countries:— -Mrs. F. Deans,

Persia; Aliss E. F. Strang, Kenya Oolony; Mrs. D. Drummond, Hongkong oh Coronation Day; Mrs. Taylor, Japanese, Women; Mrs. Walker, The Tinkers of Scotland; Mrs. Jones, U.S.S.R. (Eussia). An original competition arranged by Mrs. Harper was won by Mrs." W. Bryant with Mrs. D. Drummond second " and the consolation prize was won by Mrs. G. SteeveAs. The afternoon ended with a playreading entitled "According to Instructions," read by the following mem-x

bers: Mesdames E. Riley, Crawford, ,F. Deans, R. Warrington and Miss, E. V. Strang (directions).
