Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Court this morning, convicted several Westshore cyclists of riding their bicycles over the footbridge between Port Ahuriri and Westshore the offenders being discharged wxthout fine. Tho decision was j a reserved one, in whiclx Mr. C. W. | Nash, appearing for tlxe defendants, i had contended that the regulation under which the eharges were made was ultra vixes, When the case was lxeard in Court on 1 September 20, Mr. Nash contended that ■ the section giving the Governor-Gen-"ral power to make regulations controlling any traffic except- motor traffic insofar as they ak^cted motor traffic ■' would not hold in the prosecutions belore the Court as the footbridge could not affect motor traffic. The Bencli held, hwever, that the regulation was a neeessary one, but the fact that in this case there was no danger to motor traffic would be taken into aceount in fixixig the penalties, Sergeant G.
