WAIPUKURAU, Last Nigtht. Sunday marked the diamond jubile3 of St. Mary's Anglican Churcli, Waipukurau. Thanksgiving was the keynoto of the inorning service, conducted by the Bishop of Waiapu, tho Rt. Rev. H. Williams, who pointed out that, though science had made wcnderful progress in the past 50 years people should not imagino that they couid get along without Divine aid. The evening service was conducted bv tlie Ven. Archdeacon K. E. Maclean. Canon E D. Rice, the vicar, was unahle to take part in the services through eye-trouble, "We are apt to forgot that it is ouly through the gifts of God that we havo all these benelits of modern scienco to help us in tho stvugglo el! Jii-i and to incrcaso our comforts," said Bishop Williams, "Ihe Church is from timo to timo gore oppressed, aud it is being iooked at with scorn by mauy, It resta with us, members of the Church at the present day, to see that the name of Chrii-ti is upheld before the world. It is in that connection that services of this sox-t are useful." Archdeacon Maclean, took a s his text, "i'eter went down to Samaria and preached Christ to them." Ihe message that Peter had gone out with was simply the story of Christ, the Gospel. The meekness and_gientleness depictod by artists were not the dominant characferistics of Christ. said Aiohdoacon Maclean.
