KIWI HOCKEY CLUB
Amiual Social Reunion There was an attendanee of over sixty members and friends of the Kiwi Hockey Club at the club 's annual social reunion, held at the rdSidence of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. McCutcheon, of George 's Drive, Napier, on Saturday evening. The largo sittingroom which was used for the occasion was prettily decorated in streamers, flowers, etc., in the club colours, Oxford and Cambridge blues. Mr. H. W. Dowling, club captain, presided, tmd expressed pleasure on behalf of the club members and visitors at once again accepting Mr. and Mrs. McCutcheon 's kindly hospitality, He congratulated the club upon having concluded another most successful season. In membersliip tho club was now the strongest hockey club in the provinco. The ?enior team had won the championship w-ithout having sustained a fiefeat in play, and having put up a rccord in the mimber of goals scorcd by them. Three junior teams had been entered for the junior competition, one being runner-up for the chainpionship, and another team in third place. This was a good Tecord. In another direction an equally good record had been put .up, the club having supplied six representativcs in the junior teams which played Wellington and Poverty Bay . He had an apology to make for the non-att'endance of tho captain of the first junior team which the club had formed, and which had won the junior cup two years ago, and a player who was practically responsible for the club having a junior team at all. This was A. J. Price, of Smedley Station, still an nrdenfc Kiwi snpporter, and tho one who had gathered together all of tho first junior members, and hold them together by his own enthusiasm and his personality. Though unable to be present
in person, Jack Price had sent a representative, who, though not a junior, was still a good Kiwi. The club was a wonderfully harmonious one, and not only did the members work with a fine sport of co-operation, but had some very strong and loyal supporters without whose help and encouragement it could not have done so well. To all of these, to the many officials on and off the field, to the self-sacrifieing roferees, the donors of trophies, the Press, and all who had in any way assisted the club, thanks and appreciation wero accorded in full measure. Mr. Dowling said he had great pleasure in presenting a number of trophies won by club members during the season, most of which had been'donated by club supporters. These were: — Silver badges for most improved player during tho season; Kiwi Blue, Colin Hallett; Kiwi Gold, Max D'Anvers; Kiwi White, Alf Koberts. Player who has done most for proniotion of hockey, Don Edmundson; most consistent player, Duncan McErlich. Other presentations were mado to Masters K. Timms and R. Hopkins, for rogular attendance among the junors; to Mr. and Mrs. B. J. McCutcheon, Mrs. Wakely, E. Tucker, D. McErlich, V. McCutcheon and H. W. Dowling, for services and support throughout. Speeial rcferonce was made to tho very enthusiastic and active interest and support given by Mr. and Mrs. McCutcheon, to the "open-house" invitation to their home, and the never-fail-ing hospitality and ldndness. Cheers were given, and the health of Mr. and Mrs. McCutcheon toasted in the usual musical xnanner. Community singing, vocal items, games and dancing filled in a most enjoyable oveuing. Prior to ' dispcrsing tho club's' anniversary cako, coloured and set out as a hockey field, with nets, flags, divisional markings, and two teams of hockey playei's in the Kiwi ( colours, and with two reforees, was cut r
by the smallest member of the club and distributed to the players and guests. The National Anthem concluded the proceedings. ■mmmmimmhmbMHM
