Heavily-Laden Lorry Goes Over Bank

BLENHEIM, TUis v&y. Ralph Bary, driver of a Nelson-owned motor-lorrv, had an amazing escape on Saturday afternoon when his vehiele, heavily laden with timber and grain and with a loaded trailer attached, crashed down a 20ft. bank into 12 feet of water in the Pelorus river, halfway between Blenheim and Nelson. The aceident occurred when the lorry was overtaking a trap behind which was led a horse. At the lorfy 's approach the animal reared, cansing Mr Barry to pull aside suddenly. The trailer left the highway dragging the lorry, which rolled over several times. Luckily for the driver the vehiele finished np in the water on its side and he was ablo to escapo from the cab through an open window. Mr Bary suffered a severe hand wound and a slight hcad injury.
