(Received 8.45 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 25. A revolt among convicts in the famouB Alcatraz prison, where the discipline is alleged to be the strictest in the world, resulted in Warden James Johnston suft'ering a, severe beatingj. A hundred of the penitentiary's 280 prisoners were given solitai-y confinement when they staged a sit-down strike, refusing Work in order to obtain more privileges J Johnston was making an inspection of the mess hall after this punishment had been imposed when a y.oung bank robber sprang at the warden, vioiously knacked him down with his bare fists and kicked him in the head when he was prostrate, resulting in profuse bleeding. The guards pulled uff the assailant, who was immediateJy thrown into an old Spanish dungeon'of solid rock below the waterline. A1 Oapone, who is an inmate, was not involved in the strike or fracas.
