HUGHAi
THOMPSON.
Sir, — The Hon. D. G. Sullivan states, "All the talk of hureaueratic control of industry of the Lahour Government is the purest propaganda." ' Here is an example that answers Mr. Sullivan. My firm uses abont 3,000 gallons of benzine per year* We have our own - 400-g'allon capacity. petrol pump and make 'a* practice of buying our" supplies wholesale. By this means the wholesalers were ■ able to give ua supplies at the wholesale rate. - Now owing to Government-interference, they aie no longer able to do so, and they are compelled to charge us' the same rate . as the benzine is suppiied' to the bnyer of a single gallon -Troin one of the town pumps.. The increase to us will be.2d per gallon, 3,000 . gallons at 2d equal. £25 per -annunn /: A short while ago • the petrpl-pump owners were talking ahofit- putting ip placards enf orcing -on'-" the" inotonsts ' mind that: the 1 tax ■ on'benrine was 10|d. I* hope while they. are abont at/ they will_ also ' print1 tliere has .been ah increase 'of 2td »a gaUon to^the wholesale private users,- owing to the Goyern? ment's and' large retailers' latest display of force." / : At : present ; we are payipg the ' Government and local bodies £20" a 'week in direct taxationi Our : Australien xuleirs prohably think a , little more . .wont ido ,us any harm. Experience may - teach theni the m'ofe-taxatipn the more unemployment; Any person^ ' taxed to the limit is compelled . to • cut out- all possible expenditure on labour, Tipairs, replacem'ents - or ; improvementa. ——"Vnnra ■ efc...
