DOMINION CONFERENCE OF TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

The first conference of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds was held in the Acqountants' Chambers, Wellington, on Wednesday, Mrs. J. Pow, Dominion president being in the chaip.. There was a large attendance of delegates from the various guilds and much important di&cussion on guild matters took place. Some usef ul remits wero caxried. Mrs. Pow welcomed the delegates, expresgipg the hope," for a pleasant aud prolitable time. She said that during the last few months she had formed severai new guilds in and around Wellington, mentioning that others were in the making and would be operating shortly. These new guilds were all flourishing and eaeh month saw a considerable increase in membership. Many eircles were operating in e%ch new guild and members were most enthusiastie and willing to help each .other ip every possible way. In fact, the mov,e- [ ment helped to fill a much-felt need in' j the lives of city women. Mrs. Pow hOped that the discussions would be pf a friendly nature, and that all would feel the necessity for pulling together for the eommon good, xealising that at all tiines the majority must rula and abiding cheerfully by the various deeisions- arrived at. Regret was exp'ressed at the resignation of Lady Gray, who is leaving Wellington shortly to live in Sydney, and who has been a prominent member of the - committee. Mrs Bow added that Mrs R. D. Oliver had kindly consented to take Lady Gray's place on the Dominion exeeutiye and extended to her a hearty welcome. She also thanked Miss Lorimer for her energetic and efficient work as secretary, and Mrs Hugh Robertshawe for her similar work as treasurer. Both these positions, Mrs Pow pointed out, were honorary ones, and Miss Lorimer and Mrs Robertshawe were tireless in their efforts .on behalf of the guild affairs. Miss Jerome-Spencer, Napier, outlined the early workings of the guild.
