Dead Man Unidentified at Present DRIVER GAVE HIM A LIFT

AUCKLAND, This Day. A man who has not yet been identir lied was killed and two men vi re injured in a level-crossing accident at New Lynn shortly before midnight when a five-seater touring car proceeding alon'g the Titirangi road struck the cngine of a goods traiu travelling from Maungaturoto to Auckland. The driver of the car, Mr Shannon, married, aged 29, of Hobson street, Auckland, was cut about the hea'd. His companion, Mr T. Wood, married, aged. 29, of the same address, suffered severe head injuries. - The man who was killed was pinned under the car when. it capsized after striking the train. The car struck the side of the engine as the engine was half-way oyer the crossing. The car was carried along for a few yards, turned completely round and then capsized in the grass near the crossing. The vehicle was extensively damaged. The train stopped in about half its length. ' The guard, the engrne-driver, the fii-eman and several people who had heard the soxmd of the crash rigbted the car, which was lying on top of the unidentified man. * A doctor attended tlie two injured men, who were admitted to hospital. The driver of the car said that they gave the unknown man a hft in the city earlier in the evening. Mr Wood's condition after the accident was reported to be serious, bufc he is improving to-day.
