AUCKLAND, This Day. Tests of an air-conditioned sleeping car were csfrried out on the run from Welliugton to Auckland by last night 'b Maia Truak express. Mr. H. G. Mackley, general managcr,' who made the trip, described the test as very satisfactory. ife recalled a statement by the Jlon. D. G. Sullivau that it was the Government 's intention to install air-conditioned apparatus in passenger rolling. stock on all the longer routes. The system under trial hadl been designed especially for New Zea-5 land conditions, and was less elaborate, lighter and more economical than the apparatus in use in Australian and other warmer countries. * Further tests will be carried out on tho return trip to Wellington during the week-end, when Mr. Sulljvan will probably bo a passongcr.
