Chess at Makaretu. In an interesting series of matches at the home of Mr Severinson, Makaretu, a tearn from the Waipukurau Chess Club beat the Makafetu repfesentatives by three and a-half wins to one and a-half. Details: D. W. Neild defeated G. Severinsen, F; Wilson dfew with 9. Severineen, J. Huntley Walker lost to W. Severinsen, W. England defeated E. Petefsen and G. C. Stapleton defeated N. Severinsen. Hatuma Gard Evening. A successful flag "6U0" evening, arranged by the members of the Hatuma Women' s Institute, was lield in the Hatuma Hall, on Wednesday. Piayers from Waipukurau were pfeSent and 13 tables were occupied. Tlic winners wero Mrs R. McLean, Miss J. Edgar and Messrs D. J. Bayliss and H. T. Bayliss. The consolation prize went to Mr and Mrs M. H. Collins, Miss "Wilson and Mf L. Jlobertson. During the evening musical items on the dccordeon were given by Messrs H. Martin and W. H". Simmons, and after supper dancing was held.
